Anything goes at this Columbia Heights dive bar. Wonderland’s brunch mantra should be: “Bring me your hungover, your hungry”. It’s the perfect place to be just that… and maybe still a bit thirsty even, especially if your hangover cure is to keep drinking. Most of the time I’m totally down for trying new things, but there’s something about those hearty breakfast/brunch classics that always seem to give you exactly what you needed. Wonderland’s brunch menu is filled with the eggy mainstays that you crave after a night of boozing or a lazy morning of absolutely nothing. Now, if you’re looking for the dive bar feel with the flair of fancy fare, this is definitely not your jam. Think skillets, biscuits and gravy, breakfast burritos, and such. One of my favorite brunch dishes is hands down Huevos Rancheros and was an instant choice when I saw it on the menu. Interestingly it was different from other Huevos Rancheros I’ve had- or any of its derivatives. Instead of just tortillas as the base, they took it up a notch and added another tortilla layer and stuffed it with bean and cheese goodness (pretty original huh?). I also got a taste of the biscuits and gravy which was also pretty tasty. It’s typically not my go to, but done pretty well if you ask me. Aside from the creative takes on your favorite combinations of all things eggs, potatoes and cheese, you’ll find your usual options for brunch drinks here- bloodys, mimosas, beers. Overall, I enjoyed it. Pretty much what you’d expect from brunch at a dive bar- sans the disappointment. A great option for those IDGAF type of weekends.
