school days

my inspo

As a kid, uniforms at my elementary school were optional, but of course my mother made me wear it everyday. I had to beg her to allow me to do my own thing (if I was lucky on a Friday or a special occasion at school). I was so jealous of my classmates whose parents allowed them to wear regular clothes more often. Needless to say, as a kid, I hated wearing my uniform and jumped at the chance to go to a junior high school where I’d be freed of the monotony.

Nothing reminds me of my school days more than anything plaid- especially skirts, pants, or blazers. It’s one of my favorite looks to put together, especially for work. Plaid has also been a big trend this season and this school girl at heart is loving it. When I found this gem, I couldn’t resist. Where did I find it you ask? It’s vintage, of course. I snagged it from one of my favorite vintage shops in Baltimore called Illicit Rag Vintage. If you’re ever in the area you should definitely stop on in. Two words: endless goodies.

I was especially drawn to this blazer because of the colors. Anything in the teal/ turquoise family I’m immediately drawn to. I was wearing this for a brunch/ day party so I knew I wanted to give a Friday after school vibe. You remember those days, right!? When you had plans with your friends after school, but didn’t want your parents to know you snuck a change of clothes in your backpack.

I love pairing formal with informal, so this printed tee adds the perfect touch- formal, yet unexpected. These pants were almost an exact color match and paired perfectly. Lastly, adding a pop of color is one of my favorite things to do when putting together outfits. Low, chunky heeled sandals are another trend I’ve been excited to indulge in this spring/summer season. These snake print, bright yellow sandals were the comfy- yet dressed up- shoes I needed to complete this look.

Which childhood trends you couldn’t stand, then, are giving you life, now? I love that fashion is cyclical and finds a way to reimagine what inspired those before us.
