My Inspo

When my friend and fellow blogger, Tati, invited me to join her at the District of Fashion Runway Show, I immediately said, “Yes”! After the initial excitement wore off, I went into immediate outfit brainstorm mode. You know how it goes. You do a mental scan of your closet and start filling the columns of potential outfit yes, no’s, and hell no’s. Ironically, it always seems that when you want to look your best and you think you have an outfit planned to the T ( and I mean TO THE T), in my experience at least, some piece of the puzzle always seems to fall out of place (weather, fit, hair- you name it!). That’s why I’ve learned being flexible is MAJOR KEY! And honestly, sometimes you have to be willing to just go with it and find that confidence no matter what! For me, as long as I feel good in it, I know I’ve found a winner- whether 1st choice or 5th.

This assemble just so happened to be my 3rd choice, but it turned out great. This Mila and Fire Vintage slip dress and the boots were actually very recent purchases and unexpectedly arrived right on time. The vibrant royal blue contrasted the orange and pink of the floral print oh so well! The simplicity of the dress with the vibrance of the boots also makes this outfit pop. What better way to give a nod to the second coming of the 90’s than adding a simple white tee underneath.

This hair is inspired by a look I saw on Blackish star, Yara Shahidi- plus a few edits. Instead of one braid adorned with safety pins, I did 3. I’ve been loving all of the hair accessory trends and I couldn’t wait to attempt one with safety pins. It definitely helped to give the otherwise super fem look some edge. My earrings are from a Black-owned online jewelry shop called Marked by Mull. They are literally one of my favorite pairs of earrings. They’re transparent, so they work with just about any outfit I want to add a glam touch to. I almost forgot about one of my favorite parts of any outfit- the lip! This blue is one of my favorite matte lip colors and is by NYX .
